ABOUT LARRY DINE

Larry Dine is a tubist and brass instructor in the Greater Pittsburgh Area.

Dr. Dine has stayed active in the region as a teacher and performer. As a teacher, Larry teaches private lessons in the region and through Lessonface.com, is a band director at Sewickley Academy, and is the assistant marching band director with the West Mifflin Area High School. He previously held a position as low brass instructor at Fairmont State University and was a temporary faculty member at Duquesne University. As a performer, Dr. Dine holds the position of Principal Tuba with the Johnstown Symphony (tenured since 2017), and has had additional performances with the Wheeling Symphony, the West Virginia Symphony, and the River City Brass Band.

A native of Cincinnati, OH, Larry has traveled among several cities in academic pursuits, with degrees from West Virginia University (D.M.A.) in Morgantown, WV, the Eastman School of Music (M.M.) in Rochester, NY, and Capital University (B.M.) in Columbus, OH, with additional studies from Duquesne University (A.D.) in Pittsburgh, PA. He has given guest recitals, masterclasses, and clinics across the region, including at Frostburg State University, Miami Univeristy (of Ohio), West Virginia University, and Capital University. He has additionally taught guest masterclasses and sectionals with the West Virginia honor band and Johnstown Symphony Youth Orchestra.

In addition, Dr. Dine has participated in international orchestral festivals, including the National Orchestral Institute, Festival Internacional Música Na Serra (Brazil), and the Philadelphia International Music Festival. His playing can be heard on the 2018 Grammy-nominated recording of the National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic, featuring works by Ruggles, Stucky, and Harbison. In 2017 he was an MTNA national finalist, and was a featured soloist with the WVUSO, performing the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto.
